In response to falling visitor numbers and tidal changes affecting the beach Waveney commissioned Allen Scott to review the current offer and make recommendations for improvements. Working with the tourism and events officer an analysis of each of the existing attractions and facilities along the seafront was followed by a review of national and regional trends in seafronts. From this background a comprehensive set of proposals to increase visitor numbers and to lengthen the average stay was developed. These included enhancement of existing attractions such as the pier, the development of new attractions and facilities such as a modern beach hut village and measures to improve the economic impact of both through involvement and support of tourism related private sector businesses.
