Our multi-award winning Woodberry Wetlands project realises the objectives of the partnership’s vision in opening up a former fenced and secure reservoir to public access and we were especially proud to see it formally opened by none other than Sir David himself. Owned by Thames Water and managed on-site by London Wildlife Trust the new parkland reserve engages and educates people in the natural, built and industrial heritage of the site. The derelict and Grade II listed Coal House was restored as a cafe and roof terrace, entrance boardwalks, new paths, interpretation and a learning zone all combine to link the reservoir to the new community whilst enhancing the wildfowl habitat and wider biodiversity values with extensive new reedbeds and wildflower meadow. Additional open space improvements in the area, including Allen Scott projects in Finsbury Park, Abney Park Cemetery and West Reservoir add to the network of available green infrastructure in this dense urban area.
