Cuckoo Trail

The Cuckoo Trail masterplan was created to set out an approach to identify and deliver several projects that could be delivered using UKSPF funding, along the 11-mile stretch of the trail between Polegate and Heathfield.

The masterplan is also closely aligned to the Cuckoo Trail Strategy - adopted by Wealden District Council in July 2022 - which presents a vision for the trail, and sets out a number of priorities for improvements that can be delivered by the council, working closely with key partners.

Three themes are highlighted within the Masterplan, which will create an approach that aims to help stitch together people, places and nature from Heathfield to Polegate, and beyond.

The Cuckoo Trail is a remarkable natural asset that has the potential to better connect communities, instil local pride, improve residents’ wellbeing, support the visitor economy and help achieve the council’s net zero commitments.

Eight projects were recommended as priority with potential to be delivered by March 2025 under the SPF funding. Horam Hub was selected as one of these, the concepts and detail for which Allen Scott developed in collaboration with Sharpe Architecture.
