Harlow Town Park
Following the development of a well supported, long-term masterplan for Harlow Town Park, Allen Scott were reappointed to restore and enhance the main themed gardens and attractions of this large urban park, which was first designed by Dame Sylvia Crowe in 1963-64. Partly funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, works included updates to existing paths and hardscape, planting, and the lake itself.
The Water Garden, a formal arrangement of cobbled banks and cascades, features in ‘The English Gardener’s Garden’ published by Phaidon, 2023, celebrating some of the finest gardens in England. Overgrown and prone to flooding, the comprehensive restoration of this area involved desilting, vegetation clearance, renewal of hard surfaces and planting, and repairs to the 1970’s sculpture, ‘Pisces’, by Jessie Watkins, which sits centrally within the lake, as if floating on the water.
