reculver eco-tourist destination

Winner - Landscape Institute Local Planning Award 2009.
Highly Commended - Downland Architectural Prize 2009.

A market-led masterplan and a consultative approach were taken leading to a strategy to re-brand the failing Reculver as an eco-tourist destination. Forming part of a RAMSAR and SSSI the site includes the famous Reculver Towers, a designated Scheduled Ancient Monument. An emphasis on discovery, cycling, wildlife, heritage and healthy living was made. Proposals include a 250 acre wetland, new tourist accommodation and a Visitor Centre which was designed and delivered by Allen Scott using sustainable technologies. The Allen Scott masterplan was adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document and now forms long term guidance for the regeneration of the area as well as enhancements to the park itself.
